Our Mission...

To help our students understand and utilize their God-given potential in order to achieve a successful and meaningful life in whatever endeavor they may choose.

ABOUT OUR ACADEMY

Carlos Alberto's MMA & Fitness Center is one of the IE's premier Boxing and Martial Arts academies. Since our inception in 2013, our goal has been to help our students begin a new chapter in their lives through fitness and martial arts. We focus on pinpointing our students' goals and help them achieve them through mental growth and understanding of their capabilities. Our success model is based on a strong connection with our students and making sure there is enough personal attention for every student enrolled. We have several qualified coaches that Professor Carlos Alberto trained, himself. When choosing which of his students were qualified to make the transition from student to coach, Professor Carlos looked for honesty, loyalty, and commitment as their building foundation. Because of these qualities, we're sincere in saying that if you enjoy Boxing or any other Martial Art, and want to grow as a person, we are the right academy for you. We look forward to training with you, and most importantly, we look forward to helping you grow!.

Meet The Coaches

Carlos Alberto - Owner & founder

Professor Carlos Alberto began his martial arts journey at the age of 19 under the Gracie family at the renown Gracie Academy in Torrance, CA.  Being the victim of much bullying throughout his childhood, Carlos felt the need to learn how to defend himself and, thus, looked into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  Already aware of Royce Gracie’s successful run at the UFC, utilizing nothing but Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to defeat much larger opponents, Carlos felt Jiu-Jitsu was the right martial art for him.  Immediately upon participating in his first class, it was love at first try.  Carlos immediately fell in love with the art and quickly realized this was his calling.

After a brief stay at the Gracie Academy, Carlos became aware of an academy that was much closer to his home and quickly made the transition... that team ended up being no other than the infamous Carlson Gracie Team.  Since the transition, Carlos has been with the same professor, New Breed Academy’s owner & founder, John Ramirez.

Amongst being a Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Carlos Alberto has been studying and practicing the art of boxing since 2006.  He learned his foundation and fundamentals from the very respected Ian Franklin.  Being raised in an era where Mike Tyson, Julio Cesar Chavez, and Oscar De La Hoya reigned supreme, Carlos has always had a fascination and deep connection with boxing.  After enrolling himself in a boxing academy to compliment his grappling skills, he quickly realized that he already loved boxing and wanted to continue to train it, along with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

In 2013, after much studying and planning, Carlos Alberto opened his academy, Carlos Alberto’s MMA & Fitness Center… the rest, as they say, is history!

Coach Horacio - Boxing instructor

Coach Horacio began his boxing career in 2006 at the age of 12 years old.  He was trained by the very respected Ian Franklin and competed at the amateur lever for many years before dedicating himself to being a coach.  Today, along with his brother Carlos Alberto, he runs the boxing competition team and looks forward to creating multiple world champions.

Coach Juan - Muay Thai & MMA instructor

Coach Juan began his martial arts journey at the age of 14 when he enrolled himself in the wrestling team while in high school.  Fast forward to 2012, Juan found Professor Carlos Alberto and has been training under him ever since.  Juan is one of the most “well-rounded” coaches in the academy, having trained in Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Muay-Thai, & MMA.  He now focuses his efforts on teaching the Muay Thai program and running the MMA team.

Coach Adilene - Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor & event coordinator

Coach Adilene, better known as Coach Adi, began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Carlos Alberto in late 2014.  She is now one of the lead Jiu-Jitsu instructors, along with being our event coordinator.  She is 100% responsible for making our academy fun!

Coach Nick - Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu intructor & chef

Coach Nick began training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Carlos Alberto in late 2015.  Quickly after enrolling him, it was clear to Professor Carlos that Nick was going to be a good addition to the team.  Coach Nick's sincere and caring approach compelled Professor Carlos to eventually add him to the coaching staff.  Aside from being a good coach, Nick is also a chef who runs Raja Meal Preparation Co. @RajaMealPrep  He is known for saying, “all fitness journeys begin with good eating habits.”

Coach Angel

Coach Angel began training at Carlos Alberto’s MMA at the tender age of 11 years old.  He started in the kids’ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program and slowly added the boxing, and then the MMA program.  Under the guidance of all the coaches, Angel is one of the most “well-rounded” coaches and fighters we have.  He competes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and MMA competitions.

As can already be seen, all of the coaching staff at Carlos Alberto’s MMA is “home-grown,” meaning, they are all developed here.  We prefer it this way, so we know the values and principles each coach has.  We take our Mission Statement very seriously and expect every coach adhere to it… and we do!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art based on grappling techniques such as takedowns, control, leverage, and submission-holds (joint-locks & chokeholds).  It is one of the most popular martial arts due to its efficiency and simplicity.  It is widely known that almost anybody can learn Jiu-Jitsu because of this simplicity.  It is also one of the few martial arts where size is not a factor.  If you would like an efficient martial art to defend yourself, Jiu-Jitsu is definitely a martial art to consider.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai, also known as Thai Boxing, is a martial art that originates from Thailand and is based on striking and clinching techniques.  The basic striking techniques are punching, elbowing, kicking, and kneeing; while the clinching techniques are mainly used for kneeing, elbowing, and tripping opponents.  Muay Thai is commonly referred to as the art of eight limbs, signaling the use of both hands, both elbows, both knees, and both shins.  It is one of the most effective striking arts there is and is highly recommended for “stand-up” fighting.

Boxing

Boxing is an ancient martial art that was modified and modernized in Britain.  Commonly referred to as the sweet science, it involves significantly more than just throwing punches at an opponent.  The art of boxing consists of punching, blocking, head movement, and footwork, amongst other things.  It is an integral part of “stand-up” fighting and can prove to be very useful in a self-defense situation.  Apart from being a very effective martial art, boxing has also proven to produce some of the most popular athletes in the world, i.e., Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and Oscar De La Hoya.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

MMA is a mixture of multiple martial arts with the purpose of reaching an effective way of self-defense for any particular individual.  The benefit of MMA is that a practitioner will not be limited to only one style of defense, rather, he will be “well-rounded,” as he will be versed in multiple martial arts; therefore, being more likely to survive an attack by an assailant.  The most prominent disciplines in MMA are Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Boxing, Muay Thai, Judo, Tae Kwon Do, and Karate.  Apart from being very effective in self-defense, it is also one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and the most popular combat sport in the world.

Real People, Real Results!

"I started Jiu-Jitsu because I wanted to experience another form of exercise and learn self-defense. Initially, I was very uncomfortable executing the moves and sparring; however, the more I practiced and got involved, I fell in love with the sport... I remember thinking I will do whatever it takes to obtain a colored belt. Jiu-Jitsu not only helped me stay active, however, it helped my state of mind. There are times when I’m in a sticky situation in Jiu-Jitsu but I've learned to stay calm and critically think my way out of situations, and if unsuccessful, I take notes of what I need to work on.
I utilize the same critical thinking skills in my day-to-day life. At times life will be rough; however, I remember to stay calm and work my way out of the situation, just like in class. I always encourage everyone to learn a form of martial art, (preferably Jiu-Jitsu) so they can gain this same experience. My only regret is not starting sooner."

"I find there are moments when one may come to question the extent of their potential. When the mind and body are not engaged, the spirit falters. In those moments, decisions must be made to lift the spirit, push personal boundaries and begin molding what you can become. Here you will find not only these things but camaraderie, council, support and encouragement. All of which will nourish many aspects of your life, no matter at what stage you find yourself."

"I've been training at Carlos Alberto’s MMA since January of 2018. I originally signed up because I wanted to learn how to defend myself and get in better shape in the process. Five years later, I can honestly say I've gained much more than what I originally signed up for. Not only have I gotten in better shape and gained the ability to defend myself, but I've gained patience, persistence, perseverance, and determination under CAMMA's MMA program."

Ryan Luke.jpg

"My name is Ryan Luke and I began training Jiu-Jitsu at Carlos Alberto's MMA in October of 2024. I started training because I enjoy exercise and wanted to challenge myself with something difficult, but also something I could steadily improve on. I was seeking a sense of community, as well, as I’ve found through past experiences that the martial arts community is one of the most welcoming and supportive environments out there.

During my time at the Carlos Alberto's MMA, I’ve learned various techniques that have helped me progress in Jiu-Jitsu, but more importantly, I’ve discovered that martial arts are an incredible pathway for personal growth. The practice has helped me develop physically and has been a major factor in boosting my confidence. My newfound confidence comes from knowing that I’m better equipped to protect myself and my family, as I feel very proud of myself after completing tough training sessions. I truly believe there’s no better place for fun, positive personal development, and fitness than Carlos Alberto's MMA."

 -Ryan Luke
